Tim Kaine, Vangie Williams to Meet with Military Families in Quantico, Tour New Businesses with Occoquan Leaders
On Monday, October 22, Senator Tim Kaine and 1st Congressional District Democratic nominee Vangie Williams will host a lunch discussion with Quantico military families. At the event, Kaine and Williams will address pressing concerns such as decreasing the veterans unemployment rate, providing military families with access to more job opportunities, and improving military members’ and families’ access to health and child care.
Later, Kaine will join Congressman Gerry Connolly, Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy, and local leaders for a conversation on economic development and take a walking tour of new businesses in Occoquan. Kaine will hear their concerns, as well as their ideas for how Kaine, at the federal level, can help their community continue to grow.
As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the father of a U.S. Marine, and Senator for one of the most military-connected states, Kaine has long been an advocate for veterans and their families. Kaine’s first bill in the Senate, the Troop Talent Act, of which key pieces were included in the 2014 NDAA, focused on helping veterans transition into a civilian career. Kaine has also successfully passed key provisions of bills that would assist veterans and military families, including improving access to continuing education programs, expanding transition and counseling resources, and increasing small business opportunities for military spouses.
Media interested in attending these events should contact Kaine campaign press secretary Brandon Gassaway at brandon@timkaine.com.
