Kaine, Luria, Spanberger to Lay Out Plans to Keep Virginians Safe at Security Focused Events in Norfolk and Henrico

Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committee, will join Democratic congressional candidates Elaine Luria and Abigail Spanberger for a series of events in the Second and Seventh Congressional Districts centered on security and their plans to keep Virginians safe. The national security discussions on Monday with Luria, a 20-year Navy veteran who retired with the rank of Commander, and Spanberger, a former CIA and federal law enforcement officer, will be held in Norfolk and Henrico.

At these discussions, Kaine, Luria and Spanberger will lay out their vision for smart national security, defense, and public safety policies that help protect Virginians and all Americans from threats at home and abroad. Security experts and community stakeholders will join them to share their perspectives on the best strategies to improve safety and strengthen U.S. security, military, and foreign policy.

In Norfolk, Kaine and Luria will be joined by Michael Fuchs, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Special Advisor to the Secretary of State, and cybersecurity expert Heather Engel. In Henrico, Kaine and Spanberger will be joined by Ned Price, a former CIA officer, and former Virginia Secretary of Technology and co-chair of the VirginiaCyber Security Commission Karen Jackson.

As the father of a U.S. Marine and as Senator for one of the most military-connected states, Kaine is a strong supporter of the military, smart foreign policy and aggressive diplomacy, and he has become the leading voice in the Senate for requiring congressional authorizations to go to war. He successfully fought to ensure the fiscal year 2019 defense authorization bill included a military pay raise, an increase in the Navy fleet to 355 ships, and funding for 12 critical military construction projects throughout Virginia. Kaine helped pass the legislation, which increases military spending; President Trump is expected to sign it into law on Monday

Media interested in attending any of these events should contact Kaine campaign press secretary Brandon Gassaway at brandon@timkaine.com.
