Tim Kaine to Return to Danville for Economic Development Conversation and New Business Tour

Senator Tim Kaine will return to Danville on Friday to visit with local leaders for a conversation on economic development and a downtown walking tour to discuss new businesses in the Southside city. Danville took center stage in the U.S. Senate campaign after Corey Stewart denigrated the city in the first debate, drawing rebuke from local leaders and editorials. Kaine defended Danville, and now is returning to the city to hold a roundtable discussion on economic development, workforce issues, and job opportunities with local business owners, municipal leaders and community stakeholders. Prior, he will join Vice Mayor Lee Vogler for lunch and a walking tour of downtown to discuss new business opportunities and economic growth in the city. At both events, Kaine will listen to local leaders to hear their concerns, as well as their ideas for how Kaine, at the federal level, can help their community continue to grow.

Kaine has strongly supported Danville going back to his days as Governor, when he helped open the IKEA manufacturing plant there. In April, Kaine returned to the plant to hear from managers and workers about workforce needs and concerns about tariffs. Also as Governor, Kaine announced hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars of new state investments in Danville. As Senator, Kaine has supported millions of dollars in federal funding for Danville, testified at the International Trade Commission on behalf of fairer trade practices for communities like Danville, and has led efforts to help recruit businesses to locate in Southside and take advantage of its existent manufacturing base.

Kaine will also make stops in Appomattox, Brunswick County, Emporia, Suffolk, Isle of Wight and Chesterfield on Friday and Saturday to engage voters ahead of November’s elections.

Media interested in attending any of these events should contact Kaine campaign press secretary Brandon Gassaway at brandon@timkaine.com.
