Tim Kaine to Focus on Economic Opportunity for African Americans at Event in Northern Virginia

On Wednesday, August 1, Senator Tim Kaine will join local community members to discuss economic opportunity and job creation for African Americans at The Ultimate Barber in Alexandria. At the event, Kaine will lay out his vision for improving job prospects and small business growth in the African American community, including expanding access to career and technical education, supporting local businesses, and addressing youth unemployment. He will take questions and have an open discussion with the community about his plans to help create an inclusive Commonwealth where jobs, health care, education, and opportunity are available to all.

As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, Kaine was instrumental in reauthorizing the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act, which is now headed to the President for his signature. The legislation includes key priorities from three of Kaine’s bills:  the Educating Tomorrow’s Workforce Act; the Middle School Technical Education Program Act; and the CTE Excellence and Equity Act, which expose middle school students to CTE programs, improve the quality of these programs, and re-design the high school experience to include courses more relevant to the 21st-century workforce to better prepare all students for future careers.

Media interested in covering or speaking with Senator Kaine at this event should RSVP to Brandon Gassaway at Brandon@timkaine.com.
