Tim Kaine Earns The Endorsement Of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689

Richmond, VA – Tim Kaine earned the endorsement of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 because he is a champion for public transit.

“Senator Kaine has been a champion of public transit and Virginia workers since his days as Mayor of Richmond. He worked to extend Metro’s Silver Line to the Dulles Airport so that Virginians could have more transportation options and create good-paying union jobs along the way” said ATU Local 689 President Raymond Jackson. “We are proud to endorse Senator Kaine because he was critical in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which invested millions in transit, roads, and bridges. Senator Kaine is a true advocate of what moves this country forward: public transit and workers.”

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of ATU Local 689. One of my proudest accomplishments is extending the Silver Line to Dulles, which I started working on as governor and got to see its completion a couple years ago, and I am proud to earn the support the workers who keep Virginia moving,” said Senator Tim Kaine. “In the U.S. Senate, I’ve stood strong for transportation options and workers’ rights, and I remain committed to building on this record and ensuring the success of public transit in Virginia.”

Senator Kaine was critical in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has provided billions of dollars to improve roads, bridges, water pipes, and public transit across the Commonwealth. This includes over $500 million just for public transit.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 consists of over 15,000 transit workers and retirees around the DC Metro area, including the hardworking employees of WMATA, DASH, Fairfax Connector, Loudoun County Transit, and Arlington Transit.
