Senator Kaine has consistently supported efforts to protect the United States at home and abroad. Working across party lines, Senator Kaine led the fight to protect our alliance with NATO, sending a strong message to authoritarians that the free world remains united. He voted in favor of the CHIPS and Science Act, which supports critical supply chains in the U.S. and to curb China’s dominance over the semiconductor and chips markets. He also was a deciding vote for the Inflation Reduction Act, which is the largest investment in tackling climate change in history and will create millions of good-paying jobs. Senator Kaine led the successful effort to repeal the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) and formally end the Gulf and Iraq wars. He has long fought to protect the merit-based federal workforce system, including through his Saving the Civil Service Act, which would protect civil servants from interference from self-serving politicians who want to put partisan loyalty ahead of merit.
