7 Days, 7 Ways Tim Kaine Stands Up For Virginia: Protecting Social Security And Medicare

Richmond, VA – In the final stretch of this election, the Kaine for Virginia campaign is launching “7 Days, 7 Ways Tim Kaine Stands Up For Virginia” to highlight seven ways Senator Kaine puts Virginia first in the U.S. Senate.

The sixth way Senator Kaine stands up for Virginia is by protecting Social Security and Medicare. Senator Kaine has always protected Social Security and Medicare and is fighting against partisan schemes that would jeopardize the benefits Virginia seniors have worked hard to earn.

Senator Kaine earned the endorsement of the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare because of his consistent commitment to seniors and working families. Seniors will save thousands on prescription drugs because Senator Kaine was a deciding vote on the Inflation Reduction Act. Now, insulin will be capped at $35 a month, and the out-of-pocket cost of prescription drugs for seniors will be capped at $2,000.

Additionally, Kaine is a cosponsor of the Social Security Fairness Act, which would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) from the Social Security Act, both of which significantly reduced benefits for nearly 3 million Americans.

Senator Kaine has stood firm against partisan efforts to privatize Social Security because Virginia seniors deserve to retire with dignity. He’s also working to protect Social Security so that generations of Americans can receive the hard-earned benefits they deserve.

“Senator Kaine has stood with Virginia seniors because every person should have access to affordable health care and be able to retire with dignity,” said Michael Beyer, Communications Director for Kaine for Virginia. “One of Senator Kaine’s top priorities is ensuring that Virginians can continue to rely on Medicare and Social Security for generations to come.”
