Richmond, VA — Tim Kaine earned the endorsement of Giffords PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, because he has been a gun safety champion at the local, state, and federal level.
“In every role he’s served—from mayor of Richmond to governor of Virginia, and now as a US Senator—my friend Tim Kaine has always put the safety of Virginians first,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “In the face of the devastating shooting at Virginia Tech University and everyday gun violence, Senator Kaine has worked to bring people together to honor the lives lost with action. He also knows that we can build a safer future without infringing on the Second Amendment. Now more than ever, we need compassionate leaders like Tim Kaine leading the charge in Washington.”
“I’m honored to have earned the support of Giffords PAC in this campaign. We have seen time and again how gun violence tears communities across our country apart, and I am grateful to my friend Gabby for her courage, leadership, and advocacy to keep all Americans safe from gun violence,” said Senator Tim Kaine. “In the U.S. Senate, I’ll keep standing up for Virginians by supporting universal background checks, making sure dangerous weapons are off our streets, and increasing access to mental health care to keep the Commonwealth safe.”
Senator Kaine has consistently supported commonsense measures to reduce gun violence like universal background checks and extreme risk protection laws. In 2022, Senator Kaine helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first gun safety law in nearly 30 years. He has also introduced the Responsible Transfer of Firearms Act, which would hold people responsible for selling or transferring a gun to someone who is barred by federal law from possessing firearms. His Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act would codify many of the significant gun safety provisions passed in Virginia into federal law.
Giffords PAC works to reduce gun violence and save lives by empowering voters with information and supporting candidates who will fight for safer gun laws.
